Pediatric Neurology Consultation Q & A

What is pediatric neurology?

Pediatric neurology is a medical specialty focused on treating children with conditions that affect the nervous system, which includes the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves. Dr. Raina is a board-certified pediatric neurologist who spent years training to be able to diagnose and treat children with neurological conditions.

Dr. Raina chose this area of medicine because he loves nothing more than improving the life of a child struggling with an illness.

Center of Excellence in Pediatric Neurology is dedicated to providing outstanding care, cutting-edge therapies, and helping patients and their families better understand their neurological condition.

Who can benefit from a pediatric neurology consultation?

Dr. Raina and his team at Center of Excellence in Pediatric Neurology offer a pediatric neurology consultation to evaluate a number of conditions. Your child may benefit from a consultation if they have been diagnosed with, or you have concerns about, one of the following:

  • Autism
  • Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
  • Seizures
  • Tic disorder
  • Developmental delays
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Learning disabilities
  • Pediatric stroke
  • Cerebral palsy

The pediatric neurology practice also specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of concussions and head injuries and offers a special concussion rehabilitation program to help heal the brain.

What happens during a pediatric neurology consultation?

Dr. Raina is a compassionate and dedicated pediatric neurologist. When you bring your child in for a pediatric neurology consultation, he approaches the evaluation by first placing himself in your child’s shoes. He doesn’t limit the scope of his evaluation to your child’s neurological condition, but also evaluates your child’s health overall.

During the evaluation, Dr. Raina asks detailed questions that may include your child’s birth and medical history, as well as family history. He then conducts a physical exam that may include various neurological and cognitive tests.

If needed, Dr. Raina may also request diagnostic tests, such as bloodwork, urinalysis, an electroencephalogram (EEG), X-rays, or MRIs to assist in confirming or ruling out a diagnosis.

Based on the results of his evaluation, Dr. Raina develops an individualized treatment plan specific to your child’s needs. He reviews the details of the plan with you and answers all of your questions.
